ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF UNINSURED IN ALAMEDA COUNTY

 

 

Financing for the Uninsured:

 

Ø   $14.87 million for five years from the Alameda Alliance for Health to subsidize coverage for Family Care.

Ø      $1 million per year in county tobacco settlement funds to expand coverage through the Alameda Alliance for Health.

Ø      $1 million per year in county tobacco settlement funds to provide coverage to in-home health support service (IHSS) workers through the Alameda Alliance for Health.

Ø      $500,000 per year from the Social Service Agency for IHSS worker coverage.

$5.5 million per year from state and federal matching funds for IHSS worker coverage.

New Products for the Uninsured:

 

Ø      Family Care: a subsidized managed care health coverage product for families who meet eligibility criteria. Developed and is administered by the Alameda Alliance for Health. Offered as of July 2000 and open to immigrants.

Ø      Group Care: a subsidized managed care health coverage product for IHSS workers. Developed and is administered by the Alameda Alliance for Health. Offered as of May 2001.

 

Collaboration:
 

Ø      Access to Care Collaborative: A group dedicated to moving the county toward universal health coverage and improving access to high quality care for the uninsured. Includes leadership from the Alameda Alliance for Health, the Alameda County Health Care Service Agency, the Alameda County Medical Center, the Alameda Health Consortium, and The W.K. Kellogg-funded Community Voices Project – Oakland, a project of Asian Health Services and La Clínica de La Raza.

Ø      Children and Families Health Insurance Task Force: A group convened by the Health Committee of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors to explore expanded health insurance coverage for children and families in Alameda County and develop recommendations. Includes a broad-base membership from county agencies, health care organizations, advocacy groups, labor unions and consumers.
