Proposal Process
A competitive Call for Proposals was issued in January 1999. The grant application deadline was April 30, 1999. The National Program Office for Communities In Charge received 100 applications from communities all across the nation. After an intense interview process, a Foundation-appointed National Advisory Committee identified twenty-six communities to receive site visits from a team consisting of National Program Office staff, staff from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and members of the Communities In Charge National Advisory Committee.
After further review of information gathered from site visit teams, the National Advisory Committee recommended twenty communities to The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for funding. The proposal and approval period is now closed, and Communities In Charge is currently working with twelve communities in Phase Two of the initiative to develop and implement proposed financing and delivery models.
